The proposed facility will be built on a 51-acre land parcel already owned by the Adani Group.
The Adani Group is set to invest at least INR 2,500 crore to establish a health city in New Town's Action Area II in West Bengal, marking its third healthcare project in India after Mumbai and Ahmedabad. According to sources close to Nabanna, the state government has approved the project, which is expected to be developed in technical and knowledge collaboration with Mayo Clinic in the US.
The proposed facility will be built on a 51-acre land parcel already owned by the Adani Group. Groundbreaking is expected before the Durga Puja season, with the initial investment estimated at INR 2,500 crore, although the project cost may increase during development.
The healthcare campus, likely to be named Adani Arogya Mandir, will be developed as a not-for-profit initiative. It will include a 1,000-bed superspecialty hospital and a medical college, to expand access to advanced healthcare services in eastern India.
According to sources, the hospital will offer international-standard clinical care supported by Mayo Clinic's technical expertise. The US-based nonprofit healthcare organization has been collaborating with the Adani Group on healthcare initiatives in India and is recognized for its integrated clinical care, medical education, and research.
The proposed hospital is expected to incorporate advanced robotic surgery capabilities and an IT-enabled smart hospital management system. Sources also indicated that 50% of the hospital's beds will be reserved for patients eligible for free treatment, aligning with the project's not-for-profit model.
Officials familiar with the development said the health city is intended to reduce the need for patients from West Bengal to seek specialized treatment in other states. Rather than competing with existing hospitals, the facility is expected to address gaps in tertiary and quaternary healthcare infrastructure.
The project was reportedly discussed by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari during a meeting with secretaries of various state departments at Nabanna on Thursday. While the state government has not yet made a formal announcement, sources indicated that preparatory work for the project is already underway.
