NHA CEO Reviews ABDM, ABHA & Digital OPD Services at UNMICRC Ahmedabad

Dr Sunil Barnwal, CEO of the National Health Authority (NHA), has visited the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology & Research Centre (UNMICRC) in Ahmedabad to review the implementation of Ayushman Bharat initiatives, with a focus on integrated ABDM-enabled services supporting patient registration and digital health records.

During the walkthrough, he reviewed services enabled through the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), including Scan & Register for Digital OPD registration and the use of ABHA-linked health records.

The ABDM is the Government of India’s flagship digital health programme aimed at creating an interoperable digital health ecosystem. Its building blocks include the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA), which provides individuals with a unique digital health identity and enables health information to be linked and shared digitally, subject to consent.

At UNMICRC, the use of Digital OPD registration through Scan & Register is intended to simplify the initial patient registration process while reducing dependence on conventional registration workflows.

Linking health records with ABHA can also support continuity of care by enabling patients’ health information to be digitally connected across participating healthcare services.

UNMICRC is a tertiary cardiac care institution in Ahmedabad that provides advanced treatment to patients across socioeconomic groups, with a particular focus on ensuring access to cardiac care for economically disadvantaged patients.

The institute’s role in delivering specialised cardiac services makes the integration of digital health infrastructure relevant to both patient access and hospital operations.
