Zimmer Biomet Expands MSK Range with Paragon 28 Deal

Following the completion of the deal, Paragon 28 has become a wholly owned subsidiary of Zimmer Biomet.

Zimmer Biomet Holdings, a global medical technology company, has acquired Paragon 28, a specialized medical device company focused on foot and ankle orthopaedics.

The transaction, completed on April 21, 2025, follows the Agreement and Plan of Merger signed on January 28, 2025, among Zimmer, Inc., Gazelle Merger Sub I, Inc., Paragon 28, and Zimmer Biomet. With this move, Paragon 28 becomes a wholly-owned subsidiary of Zimmer Biomet.

Valued at approximately $1.2 billion, the acquisition is expected to expand Zimmer Biomet’s foot and ankle portfolio with Paragon 28’s advanced technology and strengthen existing fracture, trauma, and joint replacement offerings.

Commenting on the development, Zimmer Biomet CEO and president Ivan Tornos said, "We look forward to building on the strong foundation set by Albert DaCosta and the Paragon 28 team and are excited to officially welcome them to the Zimmer Biomet family. This combination expands our leadership in the foot and ankle segment, one of the highest-growing specialties in musculoskeletal care.”

The deal will also allow Zimmer Biomet to [leverage Paragon 28’s dedicated sales force], creating a focused foot and ankle sales channel across the US and international markets. Additionally, it enables deeper access to the fast-expanding Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) segment.

Separately, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted 510(k) clearance to Zimmer Biomet’s new revision knee implant component, Persona Revision SoluTion Femur.

In a similar development, Stance Health recently raised $1 million in pre-seed funding. The Bengaluru-based healthcare startup, focused on musculoskeletal (MSK) care, plans to develop Stance Health’s proprietary technology platform, expand its team, and establish multidisciplinary MSK care centers across Bengaluru and other major Indian cities.
