Wipro GE Healthcare Launches Made-in-India, AI-Powered SIGNA™ Prime Elite MR System

The system has been manufactured at the company’s MDM facility, which also serves as its Production Linked Incentive (PLI) factory.

Wipro GE Healthcare announced the launch of SIGNA™ Prime Elite, a Made-in-India magnetic resonance (MR) imaging system, at the Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA) 2026 Annual Conference in Hyderabad.

The system has been manufactured at the company’s MDM facility, which also serves as its Production Linked Incentive (PLI) factory.

The launch comes amid a rising burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs in India, which account for more than 66% of all deaths, increasing the demand for advanced diagnostic imaging and early detection tools. SIGNA™ Prime Elite has been designed to support faster scan times, workflow efficiency, and improved diagnostic accuracy across clinical settings.

The MR system is powered by AIR Recon DL™, a deep-learning-based image reconstruction technology that enhances image clarity while reducing noise and scan duration. According to the company, data from comparisons with non–deep learning GE HealthCare scanners show up to a 37% reduction in table time, enabling higher patient throughput.

SIGNA™ Prime Elite also integrates AI-enabled workflow tools, including AIR Touch™, which automatically selects optimal coil configurations, and AIR x™, which uses deep learning to detect anatomy and prescribe MRI slices. These features are intended to standardize exam quality and reduce manual variability, including in complex neurological and musculoskeletal imaging cases.

Patient comfort features include lightweight, flexible AIR™ Coils that allow natural positioning and shorter setup times. The system also offers a flared bore design and feet-first scanning, providing additional headspace and clearance for patients who experience discomfort during MR procedures.

The system has been positioned as suitable for deployment beyond large urban hospitals. Its compact footprint and lower power requirement of 60 KVA are intended to simplify installation across tier II and tier III locations. In addition, Intelligent Magnet Technology reduces helium consumption by up to 75%, supporting lower operating requirements and sustainability goals.

Commenting on the launch, Chaitanya Sarawate, Managing Director, Wipro GE Healthcare and President & CEO, GE HealthCare South Asia, said the company continues to invest in local manufacturing and research to scale access to advanced diagnostic technologies.

Wipro GE Healthcare stated that SIGNA™ Prime Elite expands its Made-in-India imaging portfolio, which has been developed over the past three decades to serve domestic and global markets. In 2024, the company announced an investment of over ₹8,000 crore towards manufacturing output and local R&D over the next five years, and workflow efficiency across its hospital network.
