Vera Health Raises $28.5 Mn in Series A Funding for Clinical AI Search Platform

The latest funding is intended to expand its evidence-based clinical search technology, strengthen its infrastructure, and support international growth.

Vera Health, a California-based clinical artificial intelligence (AI) search platform, has raised $28.5 million in a Series A funding round led by Threshold Ventures.

The round also included participation from Optum Ventures, Mantis VC, and SV Angel.

The latest funding is intended to expand its evidence-based clinical search technology, strengthen its infrastructure, and support international growth.

Commenting on the development, Taieb Bennani, Vera Health Co-founder, said, “Our mission is to close the gap between what medicine knows and what every patient receives. Today, that gap is measured in years. We want it measured in seconds. As we grow faster in local markets, we’re now hiring internationally, close to the clinicians and health systems we serve. We’ll grow, but we’ll stay focused and obsessed with the product.”

Vera Health's platform enables clinicians to search medical literature, clinical guidelines, consensus statements, and drug labels to support clinical research and decision-making.

According to Vera Health, its search engine continuously indexes more than 60 million peer-reviewed biomedical publications, clinical practice guidelines, consensus statements, and FDA/EMA drug labels.

Unlike generic AI assistants that generate text probabilistically and search, Vera's platform retrieves and evaluates supporting evidence before generating an answer.

The system assesses the strength of available evidence and links claims to their supporting sources, allowing clinicians to examine the research behind a response.

The platform is designed to make the quality and limitations of medical evidence more visible, particularly when available research is limited, or findings are uncertain.

It flags claims supported by limited evidence, such as small retrospective case studies on rare diseases or off-label treatments, in red to alert clinicians to the lack of strong supporting data.

The startup has reported that its platform is used by more than 800,000 clinicians across 190 countries, compared with a few thousand users approximately a year earlier.

As per reports, the startup has raised $32 million in funding to date.

Further, to bridge global science with institutional variance, Vera is rolling out Vera Spaces. The enterprise capability allows hospitals and regional health systems to upload and index their own internal clinical order sets, formulary restrictions, and departmental protocols alongside global biomedical literature. It integrates clinical evidence with hospital-specific protocols.

Furthermore, Vera reported that its platform will remain free for licensed clinicians and medical trainees worldwide, with HIPAA and GDPR compliance.

Speaking on the development, Emily Melton, Threshold Ventures co-founder and managing partner, said, “Vera is compelling because it starts with the evidence, not just an answer-helping clinicians find and assess the research behind a decision while making its strengths and limitations visible. By bringing that evidence to the point of care, Vera becomes a trusted clinical intelligence layer, not just another AI tool.”
