symplr Launches AI-Powered Time and Scheduling Solution for Healthcare Workforce Management

The solution enables nurse managers to identify staffing gaps hundreds of days in advance and aims to reduce the time spent on staffing and timecard tasks by approximately 50%, according to the company.

Healthcare operations software provider symplr has launched symplr Time and Scheduling, an integrated workforce management solution that combines AI-powered scheduling and timekeeping to help health systems predict staffing needs, manage labor costs, and give nurses greater control over their schedules.

The solution enables nurse managers to identify staffing gaps hundreds of days in advance and aims to reduce the time spent on staffing and timecard tasks by approximately 50%, according to the company.

The launch comes as healthcare organizations continue to rely on manual scheduling processes. According to symplr’s Compass Survey, 41% of respondents reported that workforce scheduling at their organizations remains fully manual.

AI-Powered Scheduling and Timekeeping

symplr Time and Scheduling combines the predictive staffing capabilities of its Nurse and Staff Scheduling solution with timekeeping technology designed to handle complex healthcare pay rules and compliance requirements.

Its AI-driven workflows support schedule balancing by aligning staff preferences, scheduling rules, projected staffing requirements, and historical patterns. The system recommends schedule adjustments for managers to review and approve, reducing the need to build and modify schedules manually.

The company plans to introduce additional AI capabilities for timecard corrections and scheduling rules configuration in 2027.

Reducing Administrative Work and Labor Costs

According to symplr, nurse managers can spend five to seven hours daily building and adjusting staff schedules. The new solution is designed to reduce this administrative workload and help health systems address staffing gaps before they require last-minute overtime or premium labor.

By integrating scheduling and timekeeping, the platform provides visibility into anticipated staffing demand, workforce availability across the organization, and labor costs. The company also said the combined capabilities could free up as much as 75% of payroll team capacity.

The launch addresses workforce management challenges as health systems seek to balance staffing requirements, labor expenses, and nurses’ demand for greater scheduling flexibility.

“Nurse leaders shouldn’t have to spend hours building schedules and scrambling to fill open shifts when they could be supporting their teams and patients,” said Ali Morin, Chief Nursing Informatics Officer at symplr.

Expansion of Healthcare Workforce Operations

symplr said the platform will serve as the foundation for its broader healthcare workforce operations strategy, with plans to connect workforce planning, staffing, and analytics across inpatient and ambulatory care.

The company also plans to expand capabilities for physicians and other healthcare providers. Its strategy centers on using agentic AI to improve workforce planning and provide health systems with greater visibility into staffing requirements and labor costs.

Scott Sbihli, Chief Product Officer at symplr, said the company is developing a connected enterprise solution to address healthcare’s complex staffing needs.
