The proposed IPO could rank among the largest public listings in the technology sector. However, Anthropic has not yet disclosed the number of shares it intends to offer or the expected share price.

Anthropic, the developer of the Claude chatbot, has highlighted artificial intelligence’s potential to accelerate disease research, improve productivity, and drive economic growth in a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as it prepares for a potential initial public offering (IPO).

The company described AI as one of the most consequential technologies in human history, citing its potential to improve quality of life by advancing scientific innovation and potentially helping address diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease, rare genetic disorders, and major infectious diseases.

The proposed IPO could rank among the largest public listings in the technology sector. However, Anthropic has not yet disclosed the number of shares it intends to offer or the expected share price.

Anthropic Highlights AI’s Medical and Economic Potential

In its filing, Anthropic said AI could accelerate scientific discoveries and support research into diseases that have affected humanity for centuries. The company also identified AI as a potential driver of economic growth through automation and productivity improvements across businesses and industries.

The filing presents these opportunities alongside risks associated with the technology. Anthropic acknowledged concerns that AI could displace workers, be misused, cause harm, or pose catastrophic and existential risks to humanity.

Cybersecurity Risks Feature in IPO Filing

Anthropic also outlined cybersecurity threats involving its AI tools. The company disclosed an incident in September 2025 in which it said it detected, with high confidence, a Chinese state-sponsored hacking group manipulating its Claude Code tool to attempt infiltration of approximately 30 targets worldwide.

The targets included government agencies, and Anthropic said some infiltration attempts were successful. The disclosure highlights security challenges associated with the deployment of advanced AI coding tools.

Anthropic Reports Rising Financial Losses

The filing also detailed Anthropic’s financial performance, showing rapid revenue growth alongside substantial losses.

The company reported a net loss of £60.5 billion in the first half of 2026, compared with £9.8 billion during the same period in 2025, according to the figures provided in the filing report.

Anthropic acknowledged that it has a history of net losses and may not achieve or sustain profitability in the future.

The financial disclosures, alongside the technology’s potential benefits and risks, form part of the information available to prospective investors as the company prepares for a possible public listing.
