In a move to strengthen maternal health outcomes, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak has proposed a tech-driven strategy aimed at eliminating maternal deaths in Uttar Pradesh.

While addressing a recent meeting in Yojana Bhawan, Deputy CM Pathak emphasized that the state must adopt a comprehensive and technology-driven approach to bring maternal mortality to zero.

The meeting focused on a roadmap prepared under the Mukhyama Matritva Suraksha Sankalp Yojana to eliminate preventable maternal deaths.

He also directed the state to work holistically to improve hospital quality, monitoring systems, and human resources while leveraging digital solutions for better outcomes.

As a part of the strategy, the State Transformation Commission’s health cell has outlined measures aimed at significantly reducing the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) by 2030.

As per reports, a key component of the roadmap is a proposed mobile application aimed at ensuring 100% registration of pregnant women, along with improved tracking of healthcare services and timely interventions.

The proposed mobile application aims to reduce the Maternal Mortality Ratio by 2030 by improving coordination among healthcare providers and enhancing service delivery through real-time tracking.

The Deputy Chief Minister also emphasized the need for strengthening the health system at the grassroots level, especially the ASHA network, through better structure, accountability, and incentives.

Additionally, he called for improved monitoring of hospitals, strengthening of government healthcare facilities, and addressing disparities in rural healthcare delivery.

Pathak also highlighted the need to ensure accountability in private healthcare institutions.

Further recommendations by the Deputy CM included setting measurable targets for medical colleges, maximum utilization of NHM funds, and establishing a Center of Excellence in Gynaecology to support specialized care.

Recently, the UP government proposed INR 2,000 crore investment to expand its footprint in medicine manufacturing and support pharma investors to catalyse sectoral growth and industrial development.
