AIIMS Bhatinda has introduced a new advanced Positron Emission Tomography–Computed Tomography (PET-CT) facility and a second High Energy Linear Accelerator (HELA) unit to advance cancer diagnosis and treatment in Punjab.

The latest facility was inaugurated by Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, JP Nadda, during a recent event in AIIMS Bhatinda.

These advanced facilities are expected to enable early detection, accurate diagnosis, and precision-based cancer care for patients across Punjab and neighbouring states.

In addition, Nadda inaugurated a dedicated Burns Intensive Care Unit (Burns ICU), equipped with advanced infrastructure to provide comprehensive critical care and treatment for patients suffering from severe burn injuries.

In a major step to improve child healthcare, Union Minister Nadda also dedicated the Child Development and Early Intervention Centre (CDEIC) to the community.

Reportedly, the first facility of its kind in the region, it is expected to improve child health outcomes by facilitating early identification, diagnosis, and management of developmental disorders and disabilities.

While addressing the event, Nadda reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to strengthening Punjab’s healthcare sector, stating that Punjab remains a priority for the Government in healthcare development.

He further highlighted the Centre’s efforts to expand quality healthcare services, medical education, and specialised treatment facilities in Punjab over the past decade.

The Union minister noted Punjab is the only state in the country to have been allotted two satellite centres of the prestigious Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, within a span of 10 years. These centres are being developed at Sangrur and Ferozepur to improve access to advanced healthcare services in the region.

“The Union government has invested over INR 1,000 crore in AIIMS Bathinda, which was inaugurated in 2019. Besides, INR 449 crore has been allocated for the PGIMER satellite centre in Sangrur and INR 490 crore for the Ferozepur centre,” Nadda added.

Further, the Union Health Minister also commended AIIMS Bathinda for its growing impact on healthcare delivery and patient care.

Nadda noted that the institution currently serves approximately 3,000 outpatients daily through its Outpatient Department (OPD), while around 600 patients receive treatment through its Inpatient Department (IPD) every day.
