Torrent Group Enters Hospital Healthcare with INR 750 Cr 500-plus-bed Multispecialty Hospital in Ahmedabad

Through its subsidiary, Torrent Hospitals Private Limited, the group has proposed a comprehensive tertiary care centre, moving beyond pharmaceuticals.

Ahmedabad-based power and pharma major Torrent Group has entered the hospital healthcare segment with a large-scale multispecialty hospital project in Ahmedabad, investing over INR 750 Cr to build a 500-plus-bed facility.

Torrent’s hospital healthcare entry builds on its earlier expansion into diagnostics. In 2022, the group announced Torrent Diagnostics, marking its first move beyond pharmaceuticals into patient-facing healthcare services.

The upcoming hospital represents a strategic extension of that effort, positioning Torrent to offer end-to-end healthcare solutions covering medicines, diagnostics and advanced hospital care within a single ecosystem.

The development comes amid a sustained post-pandemic expansion of hospital healthcare capacity across Ahmedabad. In recent years, the city has seen heightened activity from corporate healthcare players, driven by acquisitions, brownfield expansions and new greenfield hospitals.

More recently, Torrent has introduced a specialised neuro-rehabilitation centre in Ahmedabad, equipped with advanced rehabilitation technologies.

The newly launched neuro-rehabilitation centre operates as a day-care facility designed for adults affected by neurological conditions arising from trauma, stroke, neuro-motor disorders or cognitive impairments.

A distinguishing feature of the facility is the use of gamified training modules, making therapy more engaging while allowing patients to track their own progress during rehabilitation. Notably, the neuro-rehabilitation facility is primarily targeted at economically weaker sections, aiming to make specialised healthcare more accessible.

Through its subsidiary, Torrent Hospitals, the group has now proposed a comprehensive tertiary care centre, reflecting the company’s broader ambitions in healthcare services beyond pharmaceuticals.

The proposed hospital will be developed on a 13,896 square metre land parcel along the SP Ring Road, one of Ahmedabad’s fastest-growing healthcare and real estate corridors.

With a planned built-up area of nearly 95,814 square metres, the facility will rank among the larger private hospital healthcare developments in the city.

Project filings indicate that once operational, the hospital is expected to create at least 2,400 direct jobs, spanning clinical, administrative and support roles, underlining its potential economic and healthcare impact.

Land for the hospital was acquired in mid-2025 for INR 247 Cr from Safal Constructions India.

The project is currently at an advanced stage of approvals, with statutory and zoning clearances underway, signalling that construction activity could begin once regulatory processes are completed.
