Terumo India & AIG Hospitals Launch Centre of Excellence for Interventional Radiology Training
The collaboration is part of Terumo India’s “Elevate IR” programme and is designed to improve clinical outcomes, reduce procedural risks, and expand access to advanced image-guided treatments for conditions such as vascular diseases, cancers, and medical emergencies.
Terumo India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AIG Hospitals to set up a Centre of Excellence for Interventional Radiology (IR), marking a structured push to strengthen training in minimally invasive medical procedures across India.
The collaboration is part of Terumo India’s “Elevate IR” programme and is designed to improve clinical outcomes, reduce procedural risks, and expand access to advanced image-guided treatments for conditions such as vascular diseases, cancers, and medical emergencies.
Shishir Agarwal, President and Managing Director of Terumo India, said the collaboration is aimed at strengthening clinician capability to improve patient outcomes. He noted that structured, hands-on training is essential for advancing the interventional radiology ecosystem in the country.
As part of the initiative, AIG Hospitals will serve as the first training centre for interventional radiologists. The programme will provide structured learning through simulation-based training, expert-led sessions, and case-based discussions. It will also be supported by the Terumo India Skill Lab (TISL), which focuses on building procedural competence in a controlled environment.
The training framework will incorporate advanced simulation tools, including liver flow models and Mentice Virtual Simulators, allowing clinicians to practice complex procedures before performing them on patients. Dedicated modules will also focus on vascular closure techniques and other critical procedural skills.
Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman of AIG Hospitals, highlighted the growing burden of chronic diseases and the increasing demand for safer, less invasive treatment options. He said interventional radiology represents a shift toward image-guided therapies that improve recovery and patient quality of life.
