The hospital is also preparing to introduce an electronic token management system to improve patient flow at the sample collection area.
Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital in Prayagraj has upgraded its central pathology laboratory with a digital e-lab system, enabling patients to receive pathology reports on their mobile phones.
The initiative also introduces electronic report delivery to hospital wards, mandatory digital registration details, and an upcoming e-token system, streamlining diagnostic services and reducing delays in patient care and moving towards paperless diagnostic reporting.
The central pathology laboratory serves both SRN Hospital and the Children's Hospital, handling nearly 1,400 to 1,600 diagnostic investigations every day.
Under the revised workflow, patients registering for any pathology investigation are now required to provide their mobile number.
The hospital has also introduced a new laboratory requisition format that requires doctors to include the patient's mobile number, Unique Health Identification (UHID), and details of the prescribed investigations before laboratory samples are accepted.
Once fully operational, the digital e-lab system will automatically send pathology reports to patients through their registered mobile numbers after tests are completed.
For admitted patients, reports will also be transmitted electronically to the respective hospital wards, allowing treating doctors to review results without waiting for printed copies.
Hospital authorities expect the system to support quicker clinical decisions and help initiate treatment sooner where required.
The pathology department has already issued implementation instructions to laboratory in-charges to facilitate the transition to the upgraded digital e-lab system across the central laboratory.
The hospital is also preparing to introduce an electronic token management system to improve patient flow at the sample collection area.
Three LED display screens have already been installed at collection counters and will display token numbers, confirmation of sample submission, and report availability in real time.
