The Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) has emerged as a key institution balancing advanced patient care with the development of affordable medical technologies, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said recently.

Commending the institute’s doctors and staff, Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted that SCTIMST has treated over 17,000 patients under the Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).

“Doctors at SCTIMST have treated more than 17,000 patients under AB-PMJAY,” Dr. Jitendra Singh said, appreciating their service in expanding access to healthcare.

SCTIMST, based in Thiruvananthapuram, functions under the Department of Science and Technology and is known for its focus on high-end medical care, research, and technology development. The minister noted that the institute has successfully integrated clinical services with innovation, making it a model for other healthcare institutions in the country.

Alongside patient care, SCTIMST is actively working on developing indigenous medical devices that are both cost-effective and globally competitive. These efforts aim to reduce India’s dependence on imported medical equipment and make advanced treatment more affordable.

“SCTIMST is developing world-class, cost-effective indigenous medical devices,” Dr. Jitendra Singh said, underlining the importance of self-reliance in the healthcare sector.

He further emphasized that such innovations not only support the government’s “Make in India” initiative but also strengthen the country’s healthcare infrastructure. The institute’s work in areas such as cardiovascular devices and biomedical engineering has already gained national and international recognition.

The minister also pointed out that the dual focus on patient care and research ensures better outcomes for patients while fostering technological advancement. By combining medical expertise with innovation, SCTIMST continues to contribute significantly to both public health and scientific progress.
