Ray-Ban Maker EssilorLuxottica to Acquire AI-Driven Eye Care Platform Optegra

The deal, set to close later this year pending regulatory approvals, aligns with the group’s strategy of expanding beyond eyewear into advanced eye care solutions.
EssilorLuxottica, the maker of Ray-Ban, has announced plans to acquire AI-powered ophthalmology platform Optegra in a move to strengthen its medical technology portfolio.
The deal, set to close later this year pending regulatory approvals, aligns with the group’s strategy of expanding beyond eyewear into advanced eye care solutions.
The Franco-Italian eyewear giant said the acquisition would enhance its offering of AI-based technologies, smart wearables, medical instruments, and evidence-backed vision care services.
Optegra operates a network of over 70 eye hospitals and diagnostic centers across the U.K., Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, and the Netherlands.
The company specializes in ophthalmic treatments and elective vision correction procedures, with artificial intelligence integrated into pre- and postoperative patient care.
EssilorLuxottica has been increasingly investing in AI and connected devices. Last year, it extended its partnership with Meta to develop AI-enabled smart glasses under the Ray-Ban brand.
Financial terms of the Optegra deal were not disclosed.
