The new entity, Providence at Home with Compassus, will manage six home health locations in Alaska and Washington and five hospice and palliative care sites across the three states.
Providence, a not-for-profit health system, and Compassus, a provider of home-based care services, have finalized the first phase of a joint venture to expand home health, hospice, and palliative care in Alaska, Texas, and Washington.
The new entity, Providence at Home with Compassus, will manage six home health locations in Alaska and Washington and five hospice and palliative care sites across the three states. In Lubbock, Texas, the Covenant Health hospice program under Providence will now be branded as Covenant Health at Home with Compassus.
Under this agreement, Compassus will oversee operations, bringing its experience in home-based care delivery, operational management, and advanced technology integration. This move addresses the increasing demand for home-based care while tackling rising healthcare costs and workforce shortages.
“This venture is about meeting people where they are in the comfort of their own homes while delivering the compassionate care they need,” said Terri Warren, chief of community services at Providence. “By joining forces with Compassus, we’re creating a new model of care that combines our legacy of service with innovative solutions to support patients and families during life’s most critical moments.”
Mike Asselta, CEO of Compassus, emphasized the role of this partnership in improving patient outcomes. “At Compassus, we believe in transforming care delivery to improve outcomes for patients and communities. This partnership with Providence allows us to scale our mission, combining resources to provide more patients with the high-quality care they deserve wherever they call home.”
Providence and Compassus have assured that there will be continuity of care for existing patients, with the new organization maintaining its approach to spiritually grounded care. Employees transitioning under the joint venture will continue to receive comparable benefits and pay, and existing Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) will be honored.
Compassus, which currently operates in 32 states with more than 280 locations, has experience in joint ventures with other health systems, including Ascension, Bon Secours Mercy Health, and OhioHealth. The new agreement aligns with Providence’s broader goal of enhancing home-based care access while ensuring stability for caregivers and patients.
Operations in Oregon and California are expected to be finalized in the coming months, pending regulatory approvals.
