Parakeet Health Partners With Qualderm to Deploy Agentic AI for Dermatology Patient Access
Under the partnership, Parakeet’s AI platform will identify available appointment slots and automatically reconnect with patients who have canceled or missed appointments or are overdue for follow-up care.
Parakeet Health has partnered with national dermatology organization Qualderm to deploy agentic artificial intelligence across its network of nearly 160 practices in 17 states, targeting appointment capacity, patient follow-up and scheduling workflows.
Under the partnership, Parakeet’s AI platform will identify available appointment slots and automatically reconnect with patients who have canceled or missed appointments or are overdue for follow-up care. The platform supports two-way communication across voice, SMS, email and fax.
The AI evaluates provider schedules and practice-level requirements to determine available capacity and match patients with appropriate appointments. Qualderm’s network spans medical and surgical dermatology, skin cancer care, cosmetics and plastic surgery, creating different scheduling and provider requirements across practices.
“For national networks such as Qualderm, reconnecting patients who cancel or miss visits and quickly filling newly available appointments helps more patients receive timely care and stay connected to their care plans,” said Blake Area, Qualderm’s chief marketing and digital officer.
Parakeet Health CEO and co-founder Jung Park said the company focuses on large enterprise specialty groups where patients have recurring interactions with providers. The company currently works with six of the 10 largest dermatology groups, including three of the top five, according to Park.
The company’s platform is designed to automate inbound and outbound patient access workflows, including appointment scheduling, referral conversion, cancellation recovery and patient recall. Its agents can simultaneously place calls, send texts and manage two-way patient communications.
Parakeet reports 38% more filled appointments in head-to-head pilots with two legacy vendors and a sixfold increase in outbound conversion compared with legacy outreach vendors. Customers have also reported 42% more calls answered and a 60% reduction in call center operating expenses, according to the company.
The partnership comes as dermatology practices face rising demand and staffing constraints. A recent analysis cited by Parakeet found that patients in 15 major metropolitan areas waited an average of 36.5 days for a dermatology appointment, a 6% increase from 2022.
Parakeet operates on a pay-for-performance model, with fees tied to outcomes such as answering patient questions, rescheduling appointments or completing cancellations.
The company competes in a growing market for agentic AI in patient engagement, alongside health technology companies including Assort Health and Artera, which are developing AI-based tools for scheduling, outreach, referrals, intake and other patient access workflows.
