P&G SEHAT Flags Off Mobile Healthcare Unit in Goa’s Ponda District
The initiative aims to improve access to free primary and preventive healthcare services in underserved areas of the district.
P&G SEHAT, the healthcare-focused corporate social responsibility initiative of Procter & Gamble Health Limited, has flagged off a new Mobile Healthcare Unit (MHU) in Usgaon village, located in Goa’s Ponda district.
The initiative is aimed at improving access to free primary and preventive healthcare services in underserved areas of the district.
The launch event was attended by Dr. Sandesh Madkaikar, chief medical officer, Non-Communicable Disease Cell, Directorate of Health Services, Goa, along with Sanjay Gaude, Sarpanch of Usgaon Panchayat, and officials from P&G Health India.
The Mobile Healthcare Unit will be operated by HelpAge India, an NGO partner of P&G SEHAT. The unit will offer free primary medical consultations, access to 36 types of diagnostic tests, and the distribution of essential medicines. In addition, bi-monthly health camps will be conducted to address preventive healthcare needs within the community.
The MHU is staffed by a dedicated team comprising an MBBS doctor, a pharmacist, a community mobiliser, and a driver. Beyond clinical services, the team will assist community members in accessing eligible government health schemes. The unit will also conduct health awareness activities focusing on maternal health, nutrition, and commonly prevalent non-communicable diseases.
According to the communication note issued by the company, the initiative is designed to strengthen last-mile healthcare delivery and expand the reach of primary healthcare services in the Ponda district.
Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Sandesh Madkaikar said that mobile healthcare units play a key role in extending primary and preventive care into communities. He noted that services such as early diagnosis and timely intervention can support improved health outcomes and contribute to better health indicators at the community level.
Yugit Bansal, plant head at the Goa Manufacturing Site of P&G Health India, said that the Mobile Healthcare Unit would provide essential medical services, early diagnostics, and preventive health education to communities in the region, as part of the organization’s ongoing focus on healthcare access in underserved areas.
P&G SEHAT has been active in Goa since 2019 and has reached more than 50,000 households across Valpoi, Dharbandora, and Canacona. As part of its activities in the state, the initiative has also conducted specialized health camps, including a recent gynaecology camp in Usgaon to promote maternal health and nutrition awareness.
