Oura Acquires Gesture Recognition Startup Doublepoint to Advance Wearable AI

Doublepoint develops technology that combines artificial intelligence and biometric data to interpret small hand gestures, allowing users to interact with devices without traditional touch inputs.

Oura has acquired Doublepoint, a startup focused on gesture recognition technology that enables users to control wearable devices through natural hand movements. The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction.

Doublepoint develops technology that combines artificial intelligence and biometric data to interpret small hand gestures, allowing users to interact with devices without traditional touch inputs.

Oura said the acquisition will support the integration of gesture-based controls into its smart rings.

In a statement, the company said the technology enables devices to understand subtle hand movements, making interactions across different interfaces faster and more intuitive. When combined with Oura’s existing sensing capabilities, the technology could enable new background features designed to operate seamlessly during everyday use.

Oura indicated that its next phase of wearable AI will likely rely on a combination of voice and gesture-based interactions. The addition of Doublepoint’s technology is expected to support the company’s efforts to build more ambient artificial intelligence experiences in wearable devices.

The acquisition comes after a year of growth for both Oura and the broader smart ring segment. The company was valued at approximately $11 billion in late 2025. Oura reported that it has sold about 5.5 million rings to date, compared with 2.5 million units reported in June 2024, and forecasts sales to exceed $1.5 billion in 2026.

Industry data also points to strong momentum in the smart ring category. According to market research firm IDC, global shipments of smart rings increased nearly 51% in 2025, with Oura leading the segment.

Through the acquisition, Oura will also add Doublepoint’s Helsinki-based team, including its four founders. The company said the team will contribute to designing and developing future AI-driven experiences for its wearable platform.

Doublepoint becomes Oura’s fourth acquisition. The company previously acquired health tracking startup Sparta Science, metabolic health startup Veri, and digital identity startup Proxy.
