Orlando Health to Acquire RMC Health System, Expanding Alabama Presence
The 375-bed medical center, along with outpatient facilities and specialty practices, serves patients throughout Northeast Alabama.
Orlando Health has revealed plans to acquire RMC Health System, a not-for-profit health network in Anniston, Alabama, marking an expansion of the organization’s presence in the state. The 375-bed medical center, along with outpatient facilities and specialty practices, serves patients throughout Northeast Alabama.
The acquisition is expected to close this fall, after which RMC will become part of Orlando Health’s Alabama Region, which already includes Baptist Health. The deal will integrate nearly 2,000 team members and 200 physicians across multiple specialties, many of whom are nationally recognized for clinical excellence in areas such as cancer care, orthopedics, and maternity services.
David Strong, president and CEO of Orlando Health, said the organization looks forward to partnering with RMC’s staff and physicians to invest in services, grow strategically, and enhance patient care across the region.
Keith Parrott, CEO of RMC, noted that the partnership will accelerate growth and performance initiatives, positioning RMC as a leading acute-care referral center in Northeast Alabama. Local leaders, including Anniston Mayor Ciara Smith-Roston, welcomed the acquisition, highlighting plans to expand services, recruit physicians, and strengthen trust with the community.
Orlando Health plans to invest significant resources over the next five years to improve RMC’s facilities, equipment, and technology. The integration will include implementing an electronic health record system to streamline medical records management and improve patient care coordination.
The acquisition follows Orlando Health’s 2024 purchase of a majority interest in Baptist Health in Birmingham, Alabama, which includes five hospitals, more than 1,700 licensed beds, 58 primary and specialty care clinics, 2,600 affiliated physicians, and over 6,100 team members.
Thibaut van Marcke, senior vice president of Orlando Health and president of Baptist Health, said RMC will strengthen the system’s ability to serve patients across Alabama, expanding access to high-quality care and fostering collaboration among physicians and team members.
The move is seen as a strategic step to enhance healthcare access in Northeast Alabama, turning RMC into a regional referral center and providing comprehensive care close to home.
