NU Hospitals Launches Robotic Surgery System & Patient App in Bengaluru
The initiatives are aimed at expanding the hospital’s surgical technology and providing patients with digital access to selected healthcare services, combining modern technology with medical expertise.
Bengaluru’s NU Hospitals has introduced the AMS EDGE Robotic Surgical System and a patient-facing NU mobile application at its Rajajinagar facility.
The initiatives are aimed at expanding the hospital’s surgical technology and providing patients with digital access to selected healthcare services. The Robotic Surgical System is designed to assist surgeons during complex procedures.
Its features include high-definition 3D visualisation with up to 10x magnification, a four-arm robotic configuration and articulated surgical instruments.
The system also incorporates AI-assisted imaging, indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence technology and telesurgery capabilities.
Its ICG fluorescence imaging feature seeks to support surgeons in visualising selected anatomical structures and blood flow during appropriate procedures.
The system’s robotic instruments are designed to support precision and manoeuvrability during surgery.
The clinical benefits of robotic-assisted procedures depend on the type of surgery, the patient’s condition, and the treating surgeon’s assessment.
NU Hospitals has existing robotic surgery services, particularly in urology and paediatric urology.
The introduction of the AMS EDGE system is intended to further enhance the surgical technology capabilities of the hospital, focusing particularly on kidney care, urology, fertility and kidney transplantation.
Alongside the robotic system, the hospital launched the NU App to provide patients with digital access to selected healthcare services.
The application includes appointment booking, online consultations, digital payments, access to medical reports and prescriptions, online medicine ordering, and home sample collection for laboratory tests.
The app is intended to bring these services together on a single platform, enabling patients to manage appointments and access medical information digitally. Its practical utility will depend on the availability of services through the platform and their integration with the hospital’s existing workflows.
The latest launch follows the earlier inauguration of NU Hospitals’ digitally enabled super-specialty facility on Mission Road in Bengaluru. The facility adds to the hospital group’s presence in urology, nephrology, fertility and transplant care, with digital infrastructure incorporated into its clinical and operational services.
The launch event was attended by actor, filmmaker, and television host Ramesh Aravind as the chief guest, along with NU Hospitals Chairman Dr. Venkatesh Krishnamoorthy, Group Medical Director Dr. Dilip Rangarajan, and Managing Director Dr. Prasanna Venkatesh M K.
