NHA Holds High-Level Meeting to Identify Gaps & Outline Roadmap for India's Flagship Health Initiatives.
The two-day session, focused on the AB PM-JAY and the ABDM has served as a critical mid-point review to accelerate the delivery of affordable healthcare to over 500 million of India’s most vulnerable citizens.
The National Health Authority (NHA), under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has convened a two-day Chintan Shivir in Pune to review progress and accelerate implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.
The high-level meeting has brought together senior officials from the Centre and states to assess achievements, identify gaps, and outline a roadmap for India's flagship health initiatives.
Meghana Sakore Bordikar, Minister of State for Public Health, Government of Maharashtra, has addressed the inaugural session and emphasized preventive, inclusive, and technology-enabled healthcare, along with the role of digital tools and AI in healthcare delivery.
During the Shivir, NHA has unveiled initiatives, including a compendium of guidelines for standardizing AB PM-JAY implementation; the National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX) strategy for a unified claims ecosystem; and the ABDM Index guidebook to assess state-level progress. It has also launched the Digital Health Academy to develop healthcare workforce skills.
Sunil Kumar Barnwal, CEO of NHA, has underscored the role of integrated digital platforms in real-time monitoring and implementation. He has called for a shift from curative to preventive and predictive healthcare, in line with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
Discussions have showcased innovations such as the Ayushman App and WhatsApp chatbot, which have improved beneficiary access, as well as advancements in auto-adjudication of claims for transparency and efficiency.
States, including Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, have presented practices in artificial intelligence and digital health adoption. The integration of NHCX has been highlighted for streamlining claims processing and reducing fragmentation in the healthcare system.
