The National Health Authority (NHA) has strengthened Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) with a robust anti-fraud mechanism and real-time dashboard monitoring to enhance transparency and accountability across States and Union Territories.
Under the scheme’s zero-tolerance policy towards fraud and abuse, the National Anti-Fraud Unit (NAFU) at NHA works in close coordination with State Anti-Fraud Units (SAFU) to detect, prevent, and deter irregularities.
This mechanism enables swift joint investigations and actions against fraudulent practices at different stages of implementation.
Since inception of AB-PMJAY, a total of 3,167 hospitals have been found guilty of irregularities and violations. States and Union Territories have reported corrective measures, including the de-empanelment of 1,114 hospitals, penalties worth Rs. 122 crore on 1,504 hospitals, and suspension of 549 hospitals.
Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav, informed the Rajya Sabha that NHA’s real-time dashboards provide States with greater visibility and control, thereby strengthening accountability and effective governance under the scheme.
