Neuberg Diagnostics & Mahajan Imaging form JV to Build Integrated Diagnostic Network Across North India

Through the partnership, the diagnostic companies plan to bring pathology, imaging, nuclear medicine, genomics, and molecular diagnostics, enabling clinicians and patients to access a broader range of diagnostic information through a connected platform

Neuberg Diagnostics has entered into a strategic joint venture with Mahajan Imaging & Labs to strengthen and expand its diagnostic, pathology, genomics, and wellness services across North India.

The partnership includes plans to establish laboratories across cities in seven states and add around 20 centres offering radiology services over the next three to five years.

The collaboration brings together Neuberg’s expertise in pathology and genomics capabilities, clinical and operational expertise, multi-market experience, and IT & digital infrastructure with Mahajan Imaging & Labs’ decades of experience in radiology, Nuclear Medicine, PET CT and advanced diagnostics, established presence across Delhi NCR & Jaipur, and deep clinical expertise.

Through the partnership, the diagnostic companies plan to bring pathology, imaging, nuclear medicine, genomics, and molecular diagnostics closer together, allowing clinicians and patients to access a broader range of diagnostic information through a connected platform.

Expansion Strategy

As part of the partnership, Mahajan Imaging & Labs will serve as Neuberg’s exclusive partner across seven states in North India and will take over Neuberg’s existing laboratories in Noida, Lucknow and Jammu. Kabir Mahajan will serve as CEO of the joint venture.

The joint venture will initially focus on Delhi-NCR and surrounding markets, before expanding into some of the largest cities in North India over the next 18 months.

Acoording to the company, the seven-state territory represents around 40% of India’s population, according to the companies. The expansion model will combine hub laboratories, collection centres, advanced imaging facilities and referral capabilities.

While pathology is expected to be scaled through laboratory infrastructure and collection networks, the expansion of radiology is expected to follow a more measured approach due to its infrastructure and technology requirements.

A key part of the growth strategy will focus on establishing Centres of Excellence focused on specialised diagnostic disciplines. These facilities are expected to integrate laboratory testing with clinical expertise, technology and interpretation across areas of specialised pathology.

“We will create two centres of excellence in Delhi, one in Gurgaon, another in Delhi, to bring in all super-speciality, sub-specialities of pathology right here in Delhi,” said Dr GSK Velu, Founder, Chairman and Managing Director of Chennai-based Neuberg Diagnostics.

The companies also plan to establish a full-fledged genomics laboratory in Delhi, alongside specialised capabilities such as nephroscopy-based renal biopsy evaluation.

Additionally, technology and artificial intelligence will be another important pillar of the joint venture, with both partners exploring opportunities for AI in workflow optimisation, quality control, and diagnostic decision support across radiology and pathology.

The organisation stated that the priority is to leverage technology to improve patient outcomes rather than simply adding digital capabilities.

According to the companies, pathology, in particular, is expected to benefit from economies of scale as higher testing volumes allow laboratories to improve operational efficiency.

Further, the partnership aims to expand diagnostics into longevity and preventive healthcare, with Neuberg planning dedicated centres in Delhi and Mumbai integrating whole-body MRI, whole-genome sequencing, genetic counselling and functional medicine.

Mahajan Imaging & Labs has been using AI in imaging since 2016-17, including MRI and ultrasound applications to improve image quality and accelerate workflows. With around 15 centres across Delhi-NCR, it further plans to use the partnership to expand beyond its traditional geography.

“The decision to associate with Neuberg is rooted in where diagnostics is headed. Radiology, pathology and genomics today do not exist in isolation,” said Dr Harsh Mahajan, Founder and Chairman, Mahajan Imaging & Labs.

“It is an important step in expanding the pathology capabilities of Mahajan Imaging & Labs in a seamless manner, while further strengthening our role in a more connected diagnostic ecosystem,” he added.

Neuberg’s portfolio of more than 6,000 pathological and radiological investigations will be available across the expanded North Indian network. According to the company, the JV forms part of its wider strategy to build a national diagnostics network spanning pathology, radiology, wellness and longevity diagnostics.

“Our focus now is to complement that foundation with Neuberg’s pathology, genomics and wellness capabilities, IT and digital infrastructure and operating experience. This gives us an opportunity to build a much more comprehensive diagnostics presence in the region,” Dr GSK Velu added.

Further, the Chennai-based company is also exploring an INR 400-500 crore pre-IPO fundraise to finance acquisitions and accelerate its expansion across the country.

According to reports, the IPO is tentatively planned for calendar 2027, although the timing and size of the issue have not yet been finalised.
