Marengo Asia Hospitals Expands to Saudi Arabia, Crosses 2,000 Beds
The group has also expanded domestically with a new 300-bed facility in Varanasi and plans to double its capacity in India within the next year.
Marengo Asia Hospitals has crossed the 2,000-bed capacity mark and become the first Indian hospital group to enter Saudi Arabia through a strategic partnership in Nazran.
The group has also expanded domestically with a new 300-bed facility in Varanasi and plans to double its capacity in India within the next year.
The partnership in Saudi Arabia involves a 120-bed hospital in Nazran, which is expected to double its capacity next year, making it one of the largest private hospitals in the region. The facility already holds the country’s top accreditation, comparable to international JCI standards.
“We aim to double our domestic bed capacity in the coming year through a mix of organic growth and strategic acquisitions,” said Dr. Raajiv Singhal, Founding Member, Managing Director and Group CEO, Marengo Asia Hospitals.
Dr. Singhal described Saudi Arabia as an “untapped market with huge opportunities,” adding, “Saudi Arabia gives us the chance to build super-specialties, attract global talent, and establish a clinical corridor that connects India and Saudi Arabia.”
The Saudi hospital will focus on cardiac sciences, neurology, oncology, and joint replacement. “Diabetes, cardiac issues, stroke, and spine-related problems are as prevalent in Saudi Arabia as they are in India. Our focus is on aligning our specialties with these lifestyle-driven challenges,” Dr. Singhal noted.
Medical Value Travel and Domestic Growth
The group is developing a medical value travel (MVT) corridor by licensing Indian consultants to practice in Saudi Arabia and training Saudi clinicians in India. Patients requiring advanced care will be referred to Indian hospitals, while Indian specialists will assist in addressing gaps in Saudi Arabia. “This two-way exchange ensures better outcomes for patients and builds stronger clinical linkages,” Dr. Singhal said.
Advanced technology will play a central role at the Saudi hospital, with robotics, biosensors, non-invasive glucose monitoring, and QR-based self-registration planned. “Technology enhances patient experience and clinical outcomes. We see it as a key differentiator,” Dr. Singhal emphasized.
On domestic consolidation, he added, “Domestically, the Varanasi hospital bolsters Marengo’s presence in India’s heartland. Many patients from Varanasi travel to Delhi NCR. This partnership means we can treat patients locally while also offering them advanced care in Delhi when needed.”
Commenting on private equity support, Dr. Singhal said, “It allows healthcare providers to scale, structure operations, and make advanced procedures like organ transplants more accessible and affordable.”
Looking ahead, the group aims to operate over 5,000 beds in India within five years while selectively exploring international markets. “We are not chasing overcrowded markets. Our approach is to consolidate and add value to existing assets,” Dr. Singhal stressed.
