Maha Govt Signs MoUs with PHFI & IMMAST to Scale Public Health Infrastructure

The MoU with PHFI will focus on capacity-building programs for state medical officers and health workers, along with guidance on public health policies, training strategies, and technical collaboration.

The Maharashtra government has signed two key Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with national-level institutions to upgrade the capacity and quality of the state’s public health system.

The agreements, inked with the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) and the Institute of Medical and Minimal Access Surgery Training (IMMAST), aim to drive long-term improvements in healthcare training, policy support, and infrastructure.

The Chief Minister's Office described this as a step toward “ushering in a new era of collaboration, technical support, and policy-level impact” across Maharashtra’s healthcare landscape.

“These partnerships will ensure quality training, especially for nursing staff, which will benefit their careers and improve patient care,” said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis while addressing the MoU signing ceremony.

The MoU with PHFI will focus on capacity-building programs for state medical officers and health workers, along with guidance on public health policies, training strategies, and technical collaboration.

The Chief Minister’s Office also indicated the possibility of establishing an Indian Institute of Public Health in Maharashtra as part of the long-term vision.

PHFI, a key player in India’s public health ecosystem, has trained over 45,000 primary healthcare doctors and has been active across 583 districts.

Meanwhile, IMMAST will provide simulation-based skills training to 1,000 nurses, nursing students, and allied health professionals in Maharashtra over the next three years. Known for its hyper-realistic training modules in critical care, surgery, and nursing, IMMAST has trained over 25,000 medical professionals across 23 super-speciality areas and currently operates in more than 35 countries.

The initiative aims to create a cadre of master trainers in the state to ensure sustainable training practices. “It will empower healthcare workers by enhancing their skills and confidence,” the CMO added.
