Living Optics, NVIDIA Jetson Demo Real-Time Hyperspectral Imaging for Healthcare

The live demo highlighted the ability to distinguish between oxygenated and deoxygenated blood in real-time.

Living Optics has unveiled a real-time hyperspectral imaging (HSI) demonstration built on the NVIDIA Jetson platform, showcasing how spectral vision technology can track blood perfusion in healthcare and life sciences settings.

The live demo highlighted the ability to distinguish between oxygenated and deoxygenated blood in real-time. According to the company, this insight could support surgical planning, triage, and continuous patient monitoring.

Initially designed for scientific environments, the approach now enables high-resolution hyperspectral capabilities in deployable edge systems. The solution maintains imaging fidelity while meeting the performance, power, and size requirements of real-world applications.

Dr. Steve Chappell, CTO and Co-founder of Living Optics, said that bringing real-time hyperspectral imaging to the edge is a “transformative leap” made possible by the Jetson platform. He added that the demonstration shows how HSI can provide practical value across industrial quality control, environmental monitoring, and remote sensing.

The company noted that its software-defined platform helps researchers and developers convert spectral insights into immediate data by extracting unique fingerprints of tissues, substances, or materials. This capability strengthens machine perception across industries, including healthcare.

Hyperspectral imaging is emerging as a valuable tool in healthcare with applications such as skin cancer triage, burn assessment, and distinguishing different tissues during surgery. By bridging scientific imaging with applied AI, Living Optics and NVIDIA Jetson are highlighting how real-time spectral intelligence could advance diagnostics and patient care.
