LexisNexis Expands Epic MyChart Security with Deepfake and Fraud Defense

The initiative aims to protect sensitive personal health information (PHI) while maintaining a smooth user experience for patients.

LexisNexis Risk Solutions is strengthening security for Epic MyChart users through a broader suite of AI-driven identity verification tools, the company announced. U.S. hospitals using Epic can now deploy these solutions natively via the Epic Connection Hub.

The initiative aims to protect sensitive personal health information (PHI) while maintaining a smooth user experience for patients. LexisNexis’ expanded portfolio offers modular access to solutions such as ThreatMetrix, an AI-powered behavioral and device risk platform; Flex ID; Phone Finder; and One Time Password (OTP) authenticators.

The integration allows hospital IT teams to select the components that best match their risk tolerance. Passive behavioral analytics from ThreatMetrix monitors user behavior, device patterns, and transaction activity. Routine logins from recognized devices and locations proceed without friction, while suspicious access attempts are flagged for further verification.

For higher-risk scenarios, active verification tools such as Instant Verify, Phone Finder, and OTP authentication confirm the user’s identity and device possession.

LexisNexis plans to integrate its AI-powered IDVerse solution within the Epic framework. IDVerse leverages biometric and document verification to detect deepfakes, forgeries, and synthetic identities, offering a NIST IAL2-certified workflow for patient authentication.

Jonathan Shannon, AVP of healthcare strategy at LexisNexis Risk Solutions, said, “In an industry that remains a top target for cybercrime, striking a balance between user experience and security is critical. This integration is another step forward in instilling confidence and trust in healthcare organizations and patients alike.”

The combined platform positions hospitals to proactively defend against emerging cyber threats, ensuring that only verified patients can access their MyChart accounts while minimizing login friction.
