Karnataka Cabinet Approves INR 40.50 Cr Digital Radiography Mission to Strengthen Diagnostic Infrastructure

The Cabinet also approved INR 10.78 crore for IT hardware infrastructure for the Tele-ICU project, connecting 185 government health institutions through 11 hubs.

The Karnataka Cabinet has approved the first phase of the Karnataka Digital Radiography Mission at an estimated cost of INR 40.50 crore to strengthen diagnostic infrastructure across the state.

The digital radiography programme will focus on upgrading existing 162 X-ray systems in eligible government hospitals, expanding access to digital imaging capabilities.

The latest development was announced by the Deputy Chief Minister, Dr G Parameshwara, during a recent meeting.

The Cabinet also approved INR 10.78 crore for IT hardware infrastructure to support the Tele-ICU project.

The project is aimed at bridging the critical gap in healthcare access by connecting 185 government health institutions through 11 hubs in rural areas.

Additionally, INR 20.39 crore has been earmarked for equipment for ear surgeries and hearing-loss screening in 50 taluk hospitals, besides engaging 50 audiologists on a contractual basis.

These initiatives form a part of a broader set of healthcare technology and infrastructure measures approved by the state Cabinet.

In an earlier development, the government has approved the phased implementation of the SAMASTA digital platform to digitise health records across the state’s public health system. It builds on Karnataka's 2026-27 Budget announcement to digitise records maintained by field-level health staff.

The latest development forms part of numerous initiatives by the government, including the establishment of a drone testing facility in Chintamani taluk of Chikkaballapur district. The facility is expected to support drone technology applications in areas including healthcare and disaster management.

The Cabinet also approved INR 35 crore for establishing a Karnataka Artificial Intelligence Hub at IIIT-Bengaluru. The hub is expected to provide training through internships, mentorship, practical projects, and case studies.
