JSS AHER, Google Research Team Up on AI Healthcare Breakthrough

JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS AHER), Mysuru, has partnered with Google Research for a global artificial intelligence (AI) healthcare study, now published in Nature.

The study tested the Articulate Medical Intelligence Explorer (AMIE), an AI tool designed to improve diagnostic accuracy and patient-doctor interactions through text consultations. It was benchmarked against primary care doctors in India, Canada, and the UK.

JSS AHER contributed by creating clinical simulation scenarios tailored to Indian healthcare needs, helping ensure the AI’s relevance in local contexts.

Sharing thoughts on the collaboration, Pro-Chancellor B Suresh called it a major stride in integrating AI into healthcare and medical education.

While, according to Vice-Chancellor H Basavanagowdappa, this partnership strengthens the institution’s leadership in AI-driven healthcare innovation while giving students opportunities to work on real-world clinical AI challenges.

Google's AI Models

Last month, Google unveiled MedGemma, one of the latest members of its Gemma family of AI models. Built on the Gemma 3 architecture, MedGemma aims to provide developers a foundation for creating healthcare applications that require integrated analysis of medical images and textual data.

MedGemma is available in two variants, each including both open benchmark datasets and curated datasets, focusing on expert human evaluations for tasks.
