HCA Healthcare Acquires 40 Texas Urgent Care Centers, Expands CareNow Network to Over 430 Locations

HCA Healthcare has acquired 40 Texas MedClinic urgent care centers from Community Care Partners, expanding its CareNow network to more than 430 locations nationwide and strengthening its outpatient footprint across Texas.

The acquired facilities are being rebranded as CareNow, HCA Healthcare's urgent care brand. According to Tyler Laymon, Vice President of Strategic Growth at HCA Healthcare, eight Houston-area locations are the first in Texas to operate under the "HCA CareNow" branding. The remaining centers have been integrated into two of HCA's affiliated health systems to expand access to urgent care services.

Eighteen of the acquired clinics have joined Methodist Healthcare, an 11-hospital system jointly owned by HCA Healthcare and Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas. The addition increases Methodist Healthcare's urgent care network to 35 locations across South Texas.

Methodist Healthcare President and CEO Dan Miller said the acquisition builds on Texas MedClinic's long-standing presence in the San Antonio community while expanding access to care through a more connected network.

The remaining 14 urgent care centers have been added to St. David's HealthCare, HCA Healthcare's joint venture with the St. David's Foundation and Georgetown Health Foundation. The acquisition expands the St. David's CareNow Urgent Care network from 25 to 39 locations across Central Texas, adding services in communities including Burnet, Liberty Hill, Jarrell, Lockhart and Dripping Springs.

St. David's HealthCare President and CEO David Huffstutler said the additional clinics improve access to convenient urgent care for the region's growing population and connect more patients to the health system's broader care network.

Laymon said the acquisition supports HCA Healthcare's strategy of expanding access to care across its markets while bringing more outpatient facilities under the HCA Healthcare brand. He noted that the transaction increases HCA's CareNow footprint to more than 190 locations across Texas.

HCA Healthcare, the largest for-profit hospital operator in the United States, operates 190 hospitals and more than 2,500 care sites nationwide. The company has consistently identified Texas as a strategic growth market and has continued investing in outpatient care to meet rising healthcare demand driven by population growth. The latest acquisition follows HCA Healthcare's 2023 purchase of 41 Texas urgent care centers from FastMed.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
