India Hosts Inaugural BRICS TB Research Network Meeting on Novel Diagnostics

India, under its BRICS Chairship, convened the first technical meeting of the BRICS TB Research Network in New Delhi as part of the BRICS Health Track. The meeting was held to facilitate collaboration among member countries on advancing tuberculosis (TB) research, with a focus on diagnostics and treatment strategies.

A key area of focus was the development and use of low-cost, point-of-care molecular diagnostic tools designed to improve early and accurate identification of TB cases, particularly in resource-limited settings.
The meeting also addressed progress in treatment approaches, including the development of shorter and more effective relapse-free treatment regimens.
Member countries exchanged insights on improving patient adherence and reducing the burden of prolonged treatment cycles.
Participants emphasized the need for stronger research collaboration and coordinated action to address ongoing challenges in TB control. Discussions highlighted the importance of innovation, knowledge-sharing, and alignment of national efforts to enhance the overall effectiveness of TB programs.
The meeting concluded with BRICS nations reaffirming their commitment to advancing joint research initiatives and strengthening cooperation in tackling tuberculosis through evidence-based strategies and shared expertise.
