Imprivata Patient Access Now Available in Epic Toolbox for MyChart Identity Verification

The integration enables healthcare organizations to offer secure, self-service MyChart account creation using biometric identity verification.

Imprivata announced that its Patient Access solution is now available as a full offering in Epic Systems Toolbox within the Identity Verification for MyChart category.

The integration enables healthcare organizations to offer secure, self-service MyChart account creation using biometric identity verification.

The solution combines advanced facial recognition, high-assurance identity verification, and support for Identity Assurance Level 2 (IAL2) standards. The company said future enhancements will expand capabilities to include additional account management and recovery features.

The integration is designed to strengthen patient identification across digital and in-person touchpoints. Through biometric matching, patients can be securely linked to their medical records from the start of the care journey, reducing risks associated with misidentification, duplicate records, and denied or fraudulent claims.

“Healthcare organizations are under increasing pressure to expand digital access and patient engagement without compromising trust or security,” said Dr. Sean Kelly, Chief Medical Officer at Imprivata. “Imprivata Patient Access helps address this challenge by reducing identity uncertainty across the care journey.”

Once a MyChart account is created, Patient Access supports identification during registration and subsequent in-person visits. By leveraging existing patient photos stored within Epic systems, healthcare providers can streamline check-in workflows while maintaining identity assurance standards.

The solution also aligns with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' “Kill the Clipboard” initiative, which aims to reduce reliance on manual paperwork and fragmented identity verification processes.

Imprivata said the biometric-driven approach reduces administrative burden by automating identity verification tasks traditionally handled manually. The company added that improved accuracy in patient identification can accelerate reimbursement timelines and reduce operational costs linked to denied claims and duplicate medical records.

The availability of Patient Access in Epic Toolbox extends biometric identity verification capabilities throughout the healthcare enterprise, supporting consistent identification across digital access, registration, and point-of-care interactions.
