A key component of the agreement is the introduction of a dual-award doctoral programme, in which PhD scholars will be jointly supervised, enabling researchers to benefit from international expertise and shared research facilities.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has formalised a strategic partnership with Coventry University Group, UK, aimed at strengthening global research collaboration and accelerating innovation in AI in Healthcare.

The agreement is expected to support joint research initiatives, academic mobility, and new doctoral programmes designed to address emerging healthcare challenges through advanced technologies.

The MoU was exchanged during a visit by Coventry University Group’s senior research leadership to the IIT Guwahati campus. The delegation was led by Prof. Richard Dashwood, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), who also engaged in discussions around organising a joint research colloquium in a hybrid format.

Coventry University is a global education group known for its focus on applied research and industry collaboration. With nearly 60,000 students worldwide and a dedicated India Hub, the institution has been expanding its academic engagement with Indian universities and research centres.

Highlighting IIT Guwahati’s focus on translational research and its collaboration with CUG, Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director, IIT Guwahati, said, “Guwahati is emerging as a research centre. AIIMS and NIPER are our partners in our health sciences and technology programme, with a focus on medical devices and drug discovery. In addition, IIT Guwahati's upcoming 400-bed research hospital will anchor active collaborations between medical professionals and scientists from the School of Health Sciences and Data Sciences.”

The partnership aligns with broader national and global initiatives supporting the integration of AI technologies in healthcare. The collaboration will also include short-term faculty and student exchange programmes, allowing researchers and scholars from both institutions to work across campuses.

Another key component of the agreement is the introduction of a dual-award doctoral programme. Under this model, PhD scholars will be jointly supervised by academic mentors from IIT Guwahati and Coventry University Group, enabling researchers to benefit from international expertise and shared research facilities.
