Humana Names Amazon’s Aaron Martin to Lead Insurance Segment

Martin will initially join Humana in January 2026 to lead the company’s Medicare Advantage (MA) business before assuming full responsibility for the insurance segment following Renaudin’s departure.

Humana has appointed Amazon healthcare executive Aaron Martin as the next leader of its insurance business, as longtime insurance segment president George Renaudin plans to retire by next summer.

Martin will initially join Humana in January 2026 to lead the company’s Medicare Advantage (MA) business before assuming full responsibility for the insurance segment following Renaudin’s departure.

The leadership transition was announced by the insurer on Tuesday. Renaudin, a member of Humana’s enterprise leadership team, has spent 29 years at the company and played a central role in building and expanding its Medicare Advantage and Medicaid businesses.

Martin will join Humana as president of Medicare Advantage and will also serve on the company’s enterprise leadership team. In the newly created role, he will report jointly to Renaudin and Humana President and CEO Jim Rechtin. The position consolidates Humana’s Medicare Advantage operations under a single leader, a move the company said is intended to strengthen operational execution across its insurance businesses.

Following Renaudin’s retirement, Martin will become president of Humana’s insurance segment. At that point, John Barger will be promoted to president of Medicare Advantage and will report directly to Martin. Barger currently leads Humana’s Medicaid and dual-eligible programs and has more than 25 years of experience at the company, including over a decade supporting the MA business.

Renaudin will continue to support Humana as a strategic advisor through at least the end of 2026 to assist with the leadership transition, the company said.

Martin brings experience from Amazon, where he spent the past four years as vice president of healthcare. In that role, he oversaw strategic partnerships, marketing, telehealth initiatives, and chronic care programs.

Prior to that, he spent eight years at Providence, serving as executive vice president and chief digital officer, and as managing general partner of Providence Ventures. Earlier in his career, Martin also worked at Amazon on its Kindle and print-on-demand platforms.

The leadership change comes as Humana works to stabilize and strengthen its Medicare Advantage business amid rising medical costs across the insurance sector in 2025. As of June 30, 2025, Humana reported 8.2 million Medicare members, with approximately 5.8 million enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans.

During its recent third-quarter earnings call, Humana executives highlighted efforts to improve Medicare Advantage star ratings after only 20% of members were enrolled in plans rated four stars or higher in the latest CMS scores.
