HP Launches First Robotic Surgery Facility at AIMSS Chamiyana

Himachal Pradesh’s healthcare landscape took a significant step forward when Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated the state’s first robotic surgery facility at the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties (AIMSS) in Chamiyana.

The inauguration also witnessed the state’s first robotic surgery, performed on a resident of Khalini in Shimla who was being treated for a prostate-related ailment.

During a review meeting with hospital staff, Sukhu emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening medical infrastructure across the state. He announced the creation of new departments and the recruitment of laboratory and dialysis technicians to improve patient care at the institute.

Sukhu highlighted key upcoming upgrades, stating, "The government is investing over INR 3,000 crore in modern healthcare technology, replacing outdated machines, including the 20-year-old MRI machine at IGMC Shimla." He added, "We have allocated INR 23 crore for setting up an in-house automated lab at Chamiyana, and INR 11 crore for constructing a hostel to support hospital staff and patients."

The Chief Minister also noted the installation of a high-end 3-Tesla MRI machine at AIMSS, reinforcing the state’s push toward advanced diagnostic capabilities. The robotic surgery initiative at Chamiyana reflects the government’s broader strategy to introduce modern technology into public healthcare, improving surgical precision and patient outcomes.

The first robotic surgery, conducted at the newly inaugurated facility, represents a milestone for the state. It offers a minimally invasive alternative for complex procedures and signals a gradual shift toward high-tech surgical care within government hospitals.
