HEALWELL AI, Converge Health Iowa to Deploy Clinical AI Tools Across US Statewide HIE
The deployment will also leverage DARWEN, HEALWELL AI’s clinical AI technology, to support search and summarisation across the available health information.
Toronto-based healthcare artificial intelligence company HEALWELL, focused on preventative care, through its subsidiary Orion Health, has partnered with Converge Health Iowa to deploy DARWEN-powered SMART Search and SMART Summary solutions across Iowa's statewide HIE infrastructure,
The deployment will integrate the clinical AI search and summarization tools across a statewide infrastructure that currently receives data from 115 hospitals,
The tools are intended to enable healthcare providers and organizations statewide to extract and summarize patient records with document-level traceable provenance.
The SMART Search and SMART Summary are designed to assist clinicians in identifying relevant clinical information across large and complex patient records.
The tools can search and summarise information from connected records, with outputs linked to the underlying source documents to provide traceability.
The deployment will also leverage DARWEN, HEALWELL AI’s clinical AI technology, to support search and summarisation across the available health information.
According to the company, the technology is designed to provide source-level provenance for generated outputs, allowing users to trace information back to the relevant clinical documentation.
The initiative is focused on reducing the time required to locate relevant information within longitudinal records while maintaining access to the underlying source data.
By combining these capabilities with Converge Health Iowa's existing Orion Health infrastructure, HEALWELL expects to help transform a large-scale statewide repository of connected health information into a more actionable clinical resource at the point of care.
The agreement is structured as a multi-year, multi-million-dollar enterprise engagement, according to HEALWELL AI. The company expects the agreement to contribute recurring revenue to its AI and Data Sciences business unit over the term of the arrangement.
Beyond the commercial value of the agreement, the deployment seeks to bring HEALWELL's AI-powered clinical search and summarization capabilities to an entire U.S. state through a statewide health information exchange supporting millions of patients and connecting healthcare providers across the network.
Commenting on the latest initiative, Laura Young, Executive Director of Converge Health Iowa, said, "Our goal is to make that information genuinely useful to the people delivering care. These SMART tools are expected to help clinicians more quickly identify the information that matters within a longitudinal record while preserving the ability to trace that information back to its source. That is an important next step in making statewide interoperability more actionable."
