Google to Launch Gemini AI-Driven Health Coach on Fitbit in October

The feature, designed to act as a fitness trainer, sleep coach, and wellness advisor, will be introduced as a preview for Fitbit Premium subscribers in October.

Google announced the rollout of an AI-powered personal health coach for Fitbit, built on its Gemini model.

The feature, designed to act as a fitness trainer, sleep coach, and wellness advisor, will be introduced as a preview for Fitbit Premium subscribers in October. It will be integrated into the redesigned app on the latest Fitbit trackers, smartwatches, and Pixel Watches.

The health coach is intended to offer personalised fitness, sleep, and wellness guidance by adapting to individual health metrics and long-term goals. Google said the system can create custom routines by determining user fitness goals, personal preferences, and available equipment.

The coach provides data-driven recommendations for workouts, automatically adjusting training schedules using real-time insights. For example, it can ease activity after a poor night’s sleep. Users will also have access to real-time support, allowing them to check in, log progress, update how they feel, or request modifications when their routine is disrupted.

On the sleep front, Google highlighted improved algorithms that enhance the accuracy of sleep stage and duration tracking. The coach will deliver weekly analysis, pointing out trends such as difficulty falling asleep or disruptions caused by travel. Adaptive schedules are also part of the update, adjusting rest periods after intense workouts to support recovery.

The system is also positioned as a broader wellness partner. The coach can deliver contextual, science-based advice by drawing data from Fitbit, Pixel Watch, Google Health Connect, and Apple HealthKit. Users can ask whether to rest, train, or manage stress, with the coach offering guidance derived from health data.

Additionally, the app will highlight long-term patterns and trends to help users make more informed daily health decisions. The integration aims to provide actionable insights, reinforcing Fitbit’s role as a connected health ecosystem.
