Google Launches Pixel Watch 4 with stronger Health & Fitness emphasis

The new model introduces expanded sensors, health dashboards, and safety functions, alongside upgraded performance and design.

Google has launched the Pixel Watch 4, described as the most significant update to the Pixel Watch line to date, with a stronger emphasis on health and fitness features.

The new model introduces expanded sensors, health dashboards, and safety functions, alongside upgraded performance and design.

The watch includes an ECG app that allows users to check for atrial fibrillation and receive irregular heart rhythm alerts.

This continues Google’s integration of clinical-grade heart monitoring features into its smartwatch lineup.

Key Features

A Health Metrics Dashboard provides a consolidated view of long-term trends in breathing rate, blood oxygen saturation (SpO₂), resting heart rate, skin temperature, and heart rate variability.

The dashboard is designed to give users a clear overview of their cardiovascular and recovery status.

The Pixel Watch 4 also introduces a Readiness Score, which calculates daily recovery status based on sleep patterns, resting heart rate, and heart rate variability. This feature is intended to guide users on whether they are ready for higher-intensity exercise or should focus on recovery.

In addition, the watch includes Cardio Load, which uses heart rate and workout duration data to measure strain on the cardiovascular system.

This tool further helps users balance training and recovery by highlighting whether they are undertraining or overtraining.

For exercise tracking, the Pixel Watch 4 supports over 40 workout types, including running, hiking, swimming, and high-intensity interval training.

The device uses its sensor suite to deliver real-time data across these exercise modes. It also features dual-frequency GPS, improving accuracy for route tracking in locations where standard GPS signals may be obstructed or distorted.

The device is equipped with sensors to continuously monitor key health metrics.

These include heart rate, blood oxygen, skin temperature, stress levels, and sleep stages. Data from these measurements feeds into the Fitbit-powered ecosystem within the watch and app.

Safety features have also been expanded. The Pixel Watch 4 includes loss of pulse detection, fall detection, Safety Check, car crash detection, and emergency SOS via satellite.

These capabilities are designed to provide immediate access to emergency services, including in areas where mobile connectivity is not available.

Hardware improvements accompany the health and safety features. The watch features a brighter display, faster charging, and enhanced durability, while continuing to integrate with the broader Fitbit and Google ecosystems.

The Pixel Watch 4 is available for purchase through the Google Store and authorized retailers.
