Google Launches Pixel Watch 4 with AI Health Coach

The AI health coach, powered by Google’s Gemini technology, functions as a sleep coach, fitness trainer, and wellness advisor.

Google unveiled its latest wearable, the Pixel Watch 4, during its Made by Google event in New York, introducing an AI-powered health coach designed to provide personalized fitness, sleep, and wellness guidance.

The event, hosted by Jimmy Fallon, highlighted new features for users seeking tailored health management tools.

The AI health coach, powered by Google’s Gemini technology, functions as a sleep coach, fitness trainer, and wellness advisor. It generates personalized fitness plans based on users’ goals, preferences, and available equipment, while adjusting workouts daily based on metrics and activity data. “And when life gets in the way, you can connect with the coach at any time to make adjustments, share how you are feeling, and get advice,” Google said in a statement. “For example, if you tweak your back, tell the coach and get suggestions to adjust your workout.”

Sleep tracking has also been improved, with new algorithms detecting sleep duration and stages more precisely. Users can access insights into weekly sleep patterns and receive personalized sleep schedules. The AI health coach can answer health-related questions, including stress management and exercise recommendations for weight loss. A preview will be available to U.S. Fitbit Premium users in October via a redesigned app compatible with Fitbit trackers, smart watches, and Pixel Watches.

Beyond the AI coach, the Pixel Watch 4 introduces longer battery life, with 15 minutes of charging providing 15 hours of use. Noah Presler, group product manager at Google, noted that the watch’s improved heart rate accuracy “is on the level of a chest strap.” Other features include Precision Dual Frequency Dual GPS, raise-to-talk functionality, and, for the first time, on-device satellite communications allowing users to contact emergency services off the grid. The watch is available in two sizes and retains all previous Pixel Watch features, including loss of pulse detection.

At the same event, Google also announced updates to its broader Pixel ecosystem, including the Pixel 10 series with AI-powered call translation and Magic Cue features, Pixel Buds Pro 2 enhancements, and Gemini integration into cars. Additionally, NBA player Stephen Curry has joined Google as a performance advisor.
