Gleneagles Hospital & VIT University Sign MoU to Advance AI in Neurological Care

The partnership will target AI-enabled healthcare technologies to enhance diagnostics, treatment protocols, and patient outcomes while lowering healthcare costs.

The Vellore Institute of Technology University (VITU) and Gleneagles Hospital Chennai have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on advancing research and innovation at the convergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Neurosciences.

The partnership will target AI-enabled healthcare technologies to enhance diagnostics, treatment protocols, and patient outcomes while lowering healthcare costs.

Key focus areas include neuroinformatics, brain imaging, machine learning applications in healthcare, wearable and IoT-based medical devices, gait-assistive tools, and AR/VR-based diagnostic systems.

As stated in a press release, Dr Nageshwar Rao, CEO of Gleneagles Hospital, and Dr T Thyagarajan, Pro Vice-Chancellor of VITU, signed the MoU.

Key representatives from both institutions, such as Dr Dinesh Nayak, Dr Sangeetha, Dr Natesan Damodaran, Dr Shridevi, Dr Ganesan, and Dr Suganya, also attended the signing ceremony.

“The need of the hour is a strong tie-up between technology and the healthcare system in India. This collaboration reflects our commitment to bringing cutting-edge, affordable solutions to real-world clinical challenges,” said Dr Nageshwar Rao.

The partnership is further designed to accelerate the creation of affordable, AI-powered healthcare solutions. It emphasizes improving diagnostic accuracy, refining treatment strategies, and boosting patient outcomes while lowering the overall cost of care.

Dr Nageshwar Rao highlighted the importance of synergizing technology with healthcare in India. "This collaboration reflects our commitment to bringing cutting-edge, affordable solutions to real-world clinical challenges. This partnership aims to create a strong, sustainable framework where clinicians and engineers co-develop solutions to some of the most complex neurological and chronic conditions affecting patients today," he said.

The scope of the collaboration includes several areas of research, such as neuroinformatics, brain imaging, machine learning in healthcare, wearable and IoT-enabled medical technologies, rehabilitation and gait-assistive systems, and AR/VR-based diagnostic platforms.

These innovations aim to benefit neurological fields like epilepsy management, neuro-oncology, neurorehabilitation, and cognitive health tracking, enabling earlier interventions and improved long-term care.

Gleneagles Hospital will contribute clinical insights, infrastructure, and mentorship from neurologists and rehabilitation specialists.

It will also support prototype validation and clinical trials.

VIT will lead system design, data platform development, and software algorithms, leveraging its strengths in engineering and applied sciences.

The university will also drive research, IP creation, and commercialization efforts to ensure scalability and accessibility.

Beyond research, the collaboration aims to train the next generation of clinicians, engineers, and data scientists to tackle emerging healthcare challenges.
