Dexcom Unveils G8 Continuous Glucose Monitor With Advanced AI and Sensor Technology

Dexcom has introduced its next-generation continuous glucose monitor, G8, featuring a redesigned platform with enhanced sensing capabilities and artificial intelligence-driven insights.

The announcement was made during the company’s Investor Day, where CEO Jake Leach described the G8 as a “completely new product platform” built on a new silicon chip, updated design, and advanced algorithms developed over several decades.

The G8 system is designed to deliver improved accuracy and consistency, with fewer outlier readings compared to previous models. The device measures additional physiological signals beyond glucose levels, enabling it to adapt to individual users in real time and adjust readings based on changes in the body.

Dexcom said the device is approximately 50% smaller than its predecessor, the G7, while incorporating enhanced sensing technology to improve performance.

The company plans to submit the G8 to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration next year, with a potential commercial launch targeted for late 2027 or early 2028, depending on regulatory timelines.

Dexcom also highlighted continued momentum for its existing G7 platform, including both 10-day and 15-day wear versions, and said it intends to build on that adoption with the G8 rollout.

Separately, the company said it expects a Medicare coverage decision for its CGM devices before the end of the year, which could expand access to approximately 12 million patients, with coverage anticipated to begin in 2027.

In addition to hardware updates, Dexcom announced enhancements to its Stelo mobile application, including new features for long-term trend analysis, pattern recognition, and personalized insights through an AI-powered coaching system and virtual assistant.

The company also outlined plans for executive expansion in the United States and continued international growth, with upcoming product launches planned in India, Brazil, and Mexico.
