Delhi Govt Moves to Onboard AI Firms, Startups to Advance Smart Health

In healthcare, the emphasis is on digital governance frameworks, predictive disease surveillance systems, and optimisation of hospital resources to manage patient load more effectively.

The Delhi government is planning to bring in AI firms, startups, and research institutions to develop technology-driven solutions for healthcare, aiming to enhance efficiency and responsiveness in public health service delivery.

Officials have indicated that the Information Technology Department is inviting participation from technology companies, startups, and academic institutions to showcase AI-based solutions across multiple sectors.

In healthcare, the emphasis is on digital governance frameworks, predictive disease surveillance systems, and optimisation of hospital resources to manage patient load more effectively. These tools are expected to improve decision-making and enable proactive interventions rather than reactive responses.

Beyond healthcare, the initiative also extends to urban planning, mobility, and environmental monitoring. By integrating real-time data analytics, the government aims to enhance urban resilience and improve the quality of life.

This move builds on Delhi’s growing position as a centre for AI-led healthcare innovation. Recent developments have strengthened this ecosystem, including the launch of the Indo-French Centre for AI in Health at AIIMS Delhi in early 2026. The centre has been designed to accelerate research in brain health, disease prevention, and AI-assisted diagnostics.

In parallel, institutions such as IIT Delhi and AIIMS have been leading Centres of Excellence that focus on developing scalable AI solutions tailored to India’s healthcare needs, particularly in early diagnosis and pandemic preparedness.

The government’s outreach to AI firms and startups reflects a strategic shift toward data-driven governance. By focusing on healthcare and other essential services, the initiative seeks to reduce costs, improve accessibility, and deliver more responsive and efficient systems for citizens.
