Siemens Healthineers, Cleveland Clinic Form 10-Year Alliance for Imaging and Therapeutic Technologies

The agreement extends the companies’ 35-year relationship and will include the deployment of technologies across magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), radiation oncology, interventional radiology, and X-ray.

Siemens Healthineers has entered into a 10-year alliance with Cleveland Clinic to support diagnostic imaging, cardiology, and radiation oncology through advanced imaging and therapeutic technologies.

The agreement extends the companies’ 35-year relationship and will include the deployment of technologies across magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), radiation oncology, interventional radiology, and X-ray.

As part of the alliance, Siemens Healthineers will expand its dedicated team supporting Cleveland Clinic by adding on-site technicians and training personnel to its existing group of more than 30 employees.

Cleveland Clinic has previously used Siemens Healthineers’ technologies across its healthcare operations, including a cardiology image management agreement signed in 2008 and multiple purchases of linear accelerators.

Under the new agreement, Cleveland Clinic will continue installing Siemens Healthineers’ devices across multiple locations and departments.

“This strategic alliance with Siemens Healthineers will help us bring more consistent, connected and advanced imaging and treatment services to our patients,” said Peter Liu, chair of enterprise imaging at Cleveland Clinic. “By aligning technology, service and clinical support more closely across our global health system, we can improve access, increase efficiency and create a better experience for patients.”

The expanded partnership will also support Cleveland Clinic’s development of a theranostics program, which combines targeted imaging and therapy to personalise cancer care.

Additionally, Cleveland Clinic and Siemens Healthineers will collaborate to establish the medical center as a center of excellence for MRI technologist education. The initiative will focus on clinical education, protocol optimisation, technologist skill development, and radiation safety education.

The partnership will also provide support for physicians expanding CT imaging applications in cardiology, radiation therapy, and image-guided procedures.

The agreement follows a 10-year partnership between Siemens Healthineers and Mayo Clinic announced earlier, focusing on improving diagnosis and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases and cancer through image-guided technologies.

The companies’ alliance comes as medical technology firms continue expanding long-term collaborations with healthcare systems. GE HealthCare recently announced a 10-year agreement with Catholic Health.
