Assam CM Lays Foundation for INR 206 Cr City Hospital in Dibrugarh

The B+G+6-storeyed hospital is being built at a sanctioned cost of INR 206 Cr under the World Bank-funded Assam State Secondary Healthcare Initiative for Service Delivery Transformation (ASSIST) Project.
In a significant move to boost healthcare infrastructure in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has laid the foundation stone for a 200-bedded City Hospital at Jail Road, Dibrugarh.
The upcoming facility will serve as an extension of the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), aiming to strengthen regional healthcare services.
The B+G+6-storeyed hospital is being built at a sanctioned cost of INR 206 Cr under the World Bank-funded Assam State Secondary Healthcare Initiative for Service Delivery Transformation (ASSIST) Project.
The new facility will be constructed on 10 bighas of land and have a total built-up area of 29,087 square metres. Of the 200 beds, 120 will be allocated to the Maternity Department, while the remaining beds will serve departments including Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, and other specialties.
“This hospital will be a milestone in Assam's journey towards providing world-class medical facilities. This hospital will complement the existing AMCH infrastructure and create a comprehensive healthcare ecosystem for the people. This project represents our vision of accessible, quality healthcare for all. The strategic location of the hospital will make advanced medical services easily accessible to people from across Dibrugarh district and neighboring areas," Sarma said, while addressing a gathering at the old high school playground.
The foundation-laying event was attended by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, along with Assam ministers Jogen Mohan, Prasanta Phukan, Bimal Borah, local legislators, and senior officials.
The proposed 250-300 bed facility will focus on critical specialties such as oncology and cardiology, catering to the Northeast region and neighboring countries like Bhutan and Bangladesh.
Assam Scales Up Healthcare Infrastructure
In a similar development, Mumbai-based Lilavati Foundation recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Assam government to establish a super-specialty hospital in Guwahati.
The proposed 250-300 bed facility, with an investment of INR 300-350 Cr, will focus on critical specialties such as oncology and cardiology, catering to the Northeast region and neighboring countries like Bhutan and Bangladesh.
In addition, Assam recently inaugurated the Northeast region’s first onco-robotic surgery facility on Sunday at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
The advanced robotic surgery machine, procured for INR 14.99 crore, has been installed under the Central Government’s National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS).
