Amazon Restructures Healthcare Business Into Six Units Amid Executive Departures

The decision follows the exit of several senior healthcare executives, including Chief Medical Officer Sunita Mishra and Vice President Aaron Martin.

Amazon has announced a significant restructuring of its healthcare business, dividing it into six new units.

The decision follows the exit of several senior healthcare executives, including Chief Medical Officer Sunita Mishra and Vice President Aaron Martin.

The reorganization also follows the earlier departures of other key figures, such as Vin Gupta, former Chief Medical Officer of Amazon Pharmacy, and Trent Green, CEO of One Medical.

Neil Lindsay, Senior Vice President of Amazon Health Services, confirmed the development in an email to Reuters. He stated the changes “reflect a broader strategy to better deliver for patients and accelerate innovation across the business.”

He further added, “If we can make one thing a little bit easier for a lot of people, we'll save them a lot of time, a lot of money, and some lives.”

Amazon has been building its healthcare presence over the years, starting with its $750 million acquisition of PillPack in 2018. This was followed by the launch of Amazon Pharmacy in 2020. In 2023, Amazon acquired One Medical for $3.9 billion, gaining access to primary care services through a membership model.

In February 2024, Amazon eliminated 115 jobs across its healthcare units. A person cited by Business Insider estimated that the broader workforce changes could impact up to 400 employees.

According to a CNBC report, Amazon has been working on this overhaul for several months. However, the company has not implemented large-scale layoffs as part of the current reorganization.
