AiMeD Backs UP-MRAS Platform to Accelerate Medical Device Research & Approvals
UP-MRAS enables digital submission of research proposals, integrates regulatory checkpoints, and is designed to minimize redundancies in approval processes.
The Association of Indian Medical Device Industry (AiMeD) has endorsed the Uttar Pradesh government’s launch of the Uttar Pradesh Integrated Medical Research Application System (UP-MRAS), highlighting its potential to simplify clinical research workflows and accelerate approvals for medical devices.
By introducing standardized operating procedures tailored specifically for medical devices, the platform aims to foster compliance, enhance data integrity, and create a streamlined pathway from clinical validation to commercialization.
Rajiv Nath, forum coordinator, AiMeD, said, “AiMeD strongly appreciates the Uttar Pradesh Government’s forward-looking initiative in launching UP-MRAS. A unified, digital, and transparent clinical research ecosystem is a critical enabler for India’s medical device sector. Such platforms will significantly help in expediting clinical validation, regulatory approvals, and faster commercialization of indigenously developed medical devices.”
The system enables digital submission of research proposals, integrates regulatory checkpoints, and is designed to minimize redundancies in approval processes.
Experts have noted that improved collaboration between institutions and better alignment of regulatory frameworks could significantly enhance the quality and reliability of clinical research outcomes.
Strengthening data management systems and ensuring consistency in research protocols are also expected to contribute to higher global acceptance of India-based clinical studies.
AiMeD further acknowledged the contributions of technical experts, including Dr G N Singh, Dr Ashish Indani, Dr Hardeep Mehta, Dr Priyadarshini Arambam, and Dr Shariq Syed, in shaping the initiative’s framework.
The association believes that initiatives like UP-MRAS could serve as a blueprint for other states, supporting broader national goals such as Atmanirbhar Bharat and positioning India as a competitive hub for medical device innovation, manufacturing, and research.
The platform was showcased during a dedicated workshop at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, where stakeholders from government bodies, academic institutions, industry, and contract research organizations participated in discussions on implementation and future scalability.
