BD & Wellstar Health System Launch AI-Powered Medication Management Solution to Advance Patient Safety
The collaboration combines BD Pyxis Pro medication dispensing technology with the BD Alaris Infusion System to build a connected “pharmacy-to-bedside” workflow.
BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) has announced a partnership with Wellstar Health System to advance medication management and safety through the use of artificial intelligence. for patients across its hospitals and care facilities.
As part of the initiative, the organisations plan to deploy AI-enabled solutions designed to support clinicians in medication administration and monitoring.
The collaboration combines BD Pyxis Pro medication dispensing technology with the BD Alaris Infusion System to build a connected “pharmacy-to-bedside” workflow.
The integrated system is designed to improve accuracy, enhance real-time visibility, and streamline workflows.
By reducing reliance on manual processes, the solution aims to enable clinicians to focus more time on patient care while maintaining safety and consistency in medication delivery.
The system leverages BD Incada, an AI-driven analytics platform designed to provide enterprise-wide inventory visibility and supports natural-language queries for real-time insights.
It includes customizable dashboards that convert data into actionable intelligence, helping clinicians identify trends to ensure medication availability, reduce medication waste, and optimise labour efficiency.
Further, the collaboration also incorporates BD Alaris EMR Interoperability, which enables clinicians to send infusion orders directly from the electronic medical record via barcode scanning.
This functionality is intended to enhance accuracy and coordination in medication administration.
The collaboration seeks to strengthen safety, efficiency, and patient outcomes across the continuum of care.
Commenting on the partnership, Susan Wright, Pharm.D., Vice President, Pharmacy Services at Wellstar Health, said, "Partnering with BD to implement this technology strengthens our ability to focus on patient-centred programs and empower our teams to deliver care with confidence and compassion."
Furthermore, as part of the collaboration, Wellstar is also expected to participate in the Strategic Development Council for BD’s Medication Management Solutions business, where Wellstar leaders contribute expertise across enterprise pharmacy operations, medication safety, nursing, and informatics.
This input is intended to enable the development of future innovation at BD and drive next-generation solutions to meet the real-world challenges.
Commenting on the latest development, Connor Bates, Worldwide President for Medication Management Solutions at BD, said, "By integrating BD Pyxis and BD Alaris technologies, Wellstar is setting an example of how health systems can achieve connected, intelligent medication management that benefits both patients and clinicians."
