APTL Systems Installed at Tata Memorial Hospital, Improving Diagnostic Precision & Patient Safety
The APTL systems ensure each sample is accurately tagged and digitally tracked throughout the diagnostic process, minimizing risks such as misidentification, misplaced samples, and manual entry errors.
Automated tube labelling and barcoding (APTL) systems have been installed at Tata Memorial Hospital to improve diagnostic accuracy and efficiency in cancer care, as the Maharashtra government reinforces diagnostic capabilities to enhance accuracy, reduce human errors, and accelerate clinical decision-making
“Installation of these advanced APTL systems at Tata Memorial Hospital will enhance accuracy, transparency and speed in the diagnostic process. Prioritising patient safety through effective use of modern technology is a matter of pride for Maharashtra. CSR investments in healthcare will play a vital role in delivering stronger and better-quality services in the future,” Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said.
Tata Memorial Hospital, one of India’s leading cancer treatment and research centres, manages a high volume of patient samples daily. In such settings, even minor labelling errors or delays can significantly impact diagnosis and treatment timelines.
The introduction of APTL systems directly addresses these operational challenges by ensuring each sample is accurately tagged and digitally tracked throughout the diagnostic process.
The technology minimizes risks such as misidentification, misplaced samples, and manual entry errors. By automating these steps, laboratories can maintain consistency, reduce turnaround times, and support clinicians with dependable reports.
Fadnavis emphasized the importance of accuracy in managing complex diseases like cancer, noting that timely and correct diagnosis plays a decisive role in patient outcomes.
The initiative has been supported by Indian Oil Corporation under its CSR program.
