AIIMS Bhopal has hosted the Xi Experience Centre, a mobile sensitisation platform by Intuitive designed to raise awareness on robotic-assisted surgery.
The initiative aimed to engage healthcare professionals, medical students, and the public on the benefits and applications of minimally invasive surgical technology in central India.
Prof. Dr. Madhabananda Kar, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, said, "As a premier government medical institute, AIIMS Bhopal is committed to advancing surgical innovation and ensuring that people across Madhya Pradesh have access to high precision and minimally invasive care. Platforms like the Xi Experience Centre give our clinicians and trainees first-hand exposure to robotic-assisted surgery and help bridge the gap between technology and clinical practice."
Robotic-assisted surgery in India is witnessing steady growth, driven by improved patient outcomes, rising clinical interest, and increasing awareness of minimally invasive procedures. With adoption spreading beyond metro cities to regional hubs like Bhopal, patients can now access advanced surgical care locally, reducing the need to travel for specialized treatment.
Dr. Ketan Mehra, Associate Professor of Urology at AIIMS Bhopal, emphasized the educational value of such exposure. "Robotic-assisted surgery is transforming how a range of procedures are performed across specialties, particularly in government hospitals managing diverse surgical needs and high patient volumes. Hands-on exposure through the Xi Experience Centre helps our surgeons and trainees understand the platform’s capabilities more clearly and shortens the learning curve."
The Xi Experience Centre demonstrated core features of the da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery system, including 3D vision, wristed instruments, and real-time imaging, which enhance precision in complex soft tissue procedures. For Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities across Madhya Pradesh, such initiatives are crucial for building awareness, strengthening the regional robotic-assisted surgery ecosystem, and preparing medical professionals for future adoption.
By offering immersive training and direct interaction with advanced surgical technology, the event highlighted the growing role of robotic-assisted procedures in specialties such as urology, gynecology, general surgery, and oncology, while reinforcing AIIMS Bhopal’s position as a hub for surgical innovation in central India.
