President Droupadi Murmu said the medical field is changing rapidly and urged young professionals to adopt new technologies to strengthen their knowledge, skills, and treatment outcomes while stressing that human empathy cannot be replaced.

President Droupadi Murmu has stressed that the rapid progress in artificial intelligence and technologies is changing medicine, but human empathy remains essential in patient care.

Speaking at the first convocation of AIIMS Rajkot, the President said, "Today, artificial intelligence, robotics, and digital health services have rapidly changed the face of the medical world."

She further encouraged young medical professionals to embrace the latest technologies to strengthen their knowledge, skills, and treatment results. However, the President also noted that no technological tool can replace human empathy.

“Your gentle words, a reassuring smile, and the willingness to listen to a patient’s concerns can often prove far more effective than medication alone,” the President said. She added that medicine is more than a profession; it is a commitment to serving humanity.

The President noted that AIIMS Rajkot should give priority to local health issues, including maternal and child health and genetic diseases such as sickle cell anaemia, particularly in rural and tribal areas.

She added that these priorities should be reflected in the institute’s research and service work so that it can provide accessible, quality, and affordable tertiary care.

She also said AIIMS institutions across India play an important role in medical education, patient care, research, and policy development and have contributed to strengthening the country’s healthcare system.

"AIIMS Rajkot is relatively a new institution. It has a long journey ahead and should chart a clear roadmap focusing on good governance, transparency, and optimal use of resources to achieve excellence in education, research, and healthcare delivery," said the President.

She also underscored the progress the Institute is making in terms of the medical services, telemedicine, and community outreach efforts.

Addressing the graduating students, Murmu said they should recognise the responsibility placed on them as "custodians of public health” and uphold the trust society places in doctors.
